The Area
 Visitors are coming to this part of south west Scotland in increasing numbers to enjoy the relaxed pace of life and the
magnificent scenery, with its rolling hills.
Culture, history and arts and crafts all feature prominently in life in
the Glenkens. For the more energetic,
however, the area is on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, which offers a
wide range of activities including world renowned off-road cycling facilities.
The charming villages of Balmaclellan, New
Galloway and Dalry all have small stores and the towns of Castle Douglas,
Kirkcudbright and Dumfries are within easy
reach. Also a short drive away is the
beautiful Solway Coast with its variety of sandy beaches
and coastal footpaths.
