Galloway Dark Skies
In November 2009 the Galloway Forest Park was officially unveiled as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. The International Dark Sky Association confirmed that Galloway is one of the best places in the world for star gazing.
There is so much light pollution nowadays that fewer than 10% of people in the UK can see the Milky Way from where they live. Due to lack of housing and built up areas nearby, the level of darkness in Galloway Forest Park gives an almost unique opportunity to enjoy the night sky.
